Cat Urinating In House - 3 Reasons Why They Avoid The Litter Box

Do you constantly find you cat urinating in house everywhere apart from their litter box?

This is a very common problem so don't think that you have to suffer this all alone. Many people find their new cats may start peeing on the carpet, beds, floors etc and others who have already got cats find that they have just begun to urinate everywhere for no reason.

However there are many reasons that you may find your cat doing this, 3 reasons they are avoiding your litter box are explained below...

Cat Urinating In House - Litter Box Walls Too High

For cats that have weak joints or are just getting old may find that it is now harder to climb the walls of their litter box and due to this they may decide just to go anywhere else than this.

This problem can be very common in kittens and older cats or those with joint problems so make sure that your cat can get in and out of the litter box properly without straining themselves.

Cat Urinating In House - Location Of The Litter Box

Another reason your cat will be avoiding the litter box is that they don't like where it is placed. Your cat can be very fussy but if their needs are not met they will make you pay for it.

When it comes to location of the litter box you don't want it somewhere you're cat will hate such as...

  • Dark areas
  • Cold areas
  • Damp areas
  • Noisy areas
  • Areas that smell

Putting your cat in these areas can put them off in using the litter box and they will instead use a different area of the house.

Cat Urinating In House - Cleaning Chemicals

Cats have a very sensitive sense of smell and the chemicals you use to clean the litter box can upset them.

It may be too strong that when your cat goes to use the litter box the smell repels them from using it.

You want to use chemicals that are less harsh to your cat, maybe even buy specific litter box cleaner from your local pet store as that way you will make sure that you aren't going to repel your cat from the litter box.

Your cat is very fussy about where they urinate and if you don't create the perfect litter box for them then you will find your cat urinating in the house! To avoid this take note of the tips above and remember there are many more to stop cat urinating in house!

Great tips! I also found that keeping the litter clean can do the trick. Cats are pretty fastidious cleaners, and if their surroundings are dirty, for some reason they tend to spray more. Rated up and marked useful! :)
